Conservation and Rare Breeds of Farm Livestock

Apart from a few small natural areas among mountains and coasts, the landscape of Britain has been modified by farming. Many of the sites now valued for their plant and animal communities, such as heathland and chalk downland, are largely the products of agricultural activities. Until the present century, when arable and livestock sectors of the industry have become more or less separated, most farms integeated the growing of crops and the keeping of farm animals.
