Connoisseurs of the corporate logo will have been deeply impressed by the new Department of Environment one, unveiled in July. This masterpiece of imagination consists of the words DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT, followed by a squiggle, which a few believe is some kind of edangered flatworm while others are reminded of Secretary Gummer's enigmatic smile.
