Conservation Management Practice on British Dune Systems

Sand-dune systems in Great Britain make up a significant proportion of the total dune area in north-west Europe. Their formation, ecology, historical and present-day use by people and current management concerns also need to be viewed from this broad perspective. For several centuries there has been an imperative towards the stabilisation of dunes, but in recent decades there has been greater recognition of, and respect for, the natural dynamics of dune systems.
