Through a naturalist’s eyes

"Watching butterflies as they wander through the garden, and willing them to stop at the flowers I have thoughtfully provided to supply them with nectar, I am struck by the thought that they are unlikely flying machines compared with, say, dragonflies, bees and flies. The wing area of a butterfly is huge, vulnerable and cumbersome."
