Letter from the far West Coast

"As a temperate sort of person, I am quite content with the kind of Irish August that promotes the formation of peat and the growth of brussels sprouts. Any intimation from the ocean that change is on its way can be disquieting. Southern Trigger Fish in my neighbour's lobster pots are bad enough, but what should I make of sea anglers in peaked Hemingway caps setting off in powerful launches to do battle with Bluefin Tuna?"
