Through a naturalist’s eyes

"Walking through the countryside around here often means threading your way along footpaths bordered by acres of oil-seed rape and barley. It was a pleasant surprise, therefore, to pass through a gap in a high hedge and find ourselves in a meadow. Even more pleasant and surprising, it proved to be an old meadow, recognised even by non-botanists by being studded with anthills."
